There’s a well good interview with Frank Henenlotter up on VICE. He is the director of Basket Case, Brain Damage, Frankenhooker etc…which are some of the most gross, trippy, shitty-looking films I have ever seen. And I mean that as a compliment. They are completely fascinating on all counts. Some of the frames in Brian Damage are like visual realisations of Butthole Surfers songs. Or something. I bet Gibby Haynes fucking loved Frank Henenlotter. Anyway…
“Most of the films that had an impact on me were ones I saw as a kid, you know, like everybody. The movies you saw as a kid growing up are the ones that did most damage to your brain. I was very impressionable as a kid. I took everything very seriously and I believed everything and I was just nuts. I was not the person who should be weaned on a diet of films like Circus of Horrors and Brides of Dracula…”
